These are very funny posts
There are no 64-bit 'emulators' because it cannot function, a 32-bit system *does not have enough bits* to emulate a 64-bit system, if it did it would itself be a 64-bit system.
@ben I’m crying
Dont get me wrong I love some of my 32 bit programs, and they are my go to, but not for items that require a lot of processing, and some need a lot of processing, so 64 bit is where I went, let alone the security aspect, most harmful software is aimed at a 32 bit system.
If its a x64 executable, which the Unity is, why is it only in the x86 folder, not the main OS folder? Its a steam limitation, as steam is an x86 system, and as such is NOT able to utilise the x64 executable, without me running an emulator. Which I have no desire to do.
If it’s in Program Files (x86) it’s not a real 64-bit program
@ben I tapped out at the idea that it can only run 32 bit because it defaults to installing in the x86 version of the Program Files folder. I'm too tired to handle this level of nonsense.
@ben i genuinely don’t understand the logic. if you just did it mathematically it’s quite clear
32 bits can go into 64 bits 2 times
64 bits can go into 32 bits 0 times
64 bits can hold 32 bits
I think the problem is that they’re confusing bits and architecture. I see they use x86 for “32-bit” and x64 for “64-bit” interchangeably. I mean, the proper way to refer to that would be x86 and x86-64. They might have also made the assumption that they need an emulator because they’re “two different architectures.” I find it funny that nobody mentioned the fact that 32-bit programs can very easily be multithreaded. In fact, if you wanted to get around the 4 GB limitation, you can do multiprocess on a 64-bit system. There is nothing stopping a 32-bit processor from being multicore either, the first x86-64 & amd64 processors were in fact single & dual. It’s so good.
@ben my favorite part of the thread has got to be
Well something happened today, whilst posting here, a small update from TPM, 6.8MB, and hey ho the damned thing is running in full x64 mode, all of a sudden, which IT HAS NOT DONE for days hence my frustrations, it was only running in 32 bit mode.
@ben what on earth did I just read.
I'm getting "audiophiles talk about their favourite compilation flags for audio codecs" vibes from the way that guy* writes confidently about something he obviously doesn't understand.
