why do so many embedded systems manufacturers use absolutely ancient software on their devices? They're connected to the internet anyway, so updates shouldn't be that hard

@schratze not just hilarious, useful. You know how many bugs have been found in Android since 2018? A fuck ton.

At this point, in order to secure their cameras, Flock would have to develop an expensive and complex update, and deploy it safely without bricking their cameras or forgetting any.

But realistically, these cameras will remain vulnerable for their entire service lives.

Which could mean anything from them regularly being used by non-customers to being sabotaged en-masse.
