jkap constantly tooting their own horn about how good cohost was has me thinking about two things:
1) if cohost did not die in 2024, it would not have survived 2025. with the uk online safety act and state porn bans taking effect and payment processors getting even more strict (the enemy they previously blamed for pulling the plug on eggbux) i do not believe they would have been able to handle the changes they would have needed to make effectively without shutdown or alienation

2) i believe the reason people remember cohost so fondly is because it had people they liked, and those people made posts they liked. it was very reminiscent of tumblr shitposting, especially with the added css. however to act like it was a perfect platform with no issues is... very rose tinted glasses coded. it was missing basic platform features, several PoC have spoken out about problems with racism and moderation, css posts would often outright break the site.

i mention this because more and more ive seen people trying to "take sides" on cohost - either you're a friend of eggbug and cohost was the best platform you ever used, or you're an enemy of eggbug and cohost did everything wrong and was doomed from the start. i believe like most things the truth lies somewhere in the middle. it was a social media website, same as all the others, and all social media websites have their positives, negatives, things they did right, and mistakes.
