Alkaline batteries should still exist right now and it's okay to use them right now if you have to because (1) rechargeable AA batteries are 1.2V, not 1.5V and (2) "lithium" AA batteries are actually combinations of lithium cells (lithium cells are actually scary) with a DC-DC converter and charge controller, all from a sketchy place

There are so many people suggesting the alternatives being disingenuous or are unlearned about the subject

@TeraKaktos one of the main disadvantages about liking older camera's: many of the more interesting models rely on the at-the-time common mercury cells for power, and since they rely on their unique discharging curve it ain't trivial to find replacements for them. so i'm not in favour of discontinuing other type of batteries if it ain't strictly needed (there was a very good reason mercury batteries were discontinued)

besides, the amount of 18650's i see rotting in the streets is completely disproportional, thanks to disposable vapes. maybe we should attack that first as a society
