why are people trying to exclude horrible political goals from the umbrella of politics?

it makes no sense

they are still politicians, with political goals they try to achieve politically

like my best guess is that it comes from the occasionally stated rule that politics should not be mentioned and also all politics are fine so that you can “agree to disagree” on political issues to “keep the peace”

and then looking at the horrible shit fascists are doing and saying “well i am definitely against that. i cannot forgive its supporters. clearly this must Not Be Politics Then”

which is a very silly justification but the other, probably more cynical interpretation, is that they believe politics to be a matter to be trivially ignored and when they lose the privilege to be able to they no longer consider it to be politics

@gimmechocolate agreeing to disagree is fine on plenty of occasions but you have to be willing to draw a line after which point something becomes unracceptable. and many people do that actually, but i suppose not in a way that interacts with political ideology?

but more hardline moral judgements are frequently seen in politics, whether it is a party clinging to specific values, or just very common moral values that the politicians in the room happen to all agree on
