AppImages is yet another example of Linux users trying to steal macOS UX and completely missing the point of why said macOS UX is so intuitive and normal

macOS: You drag the app to applications folder. You now know where it is and it shows up next to all your other applications

Windows: You run the installer you downloaded. It now shows up next to all your other applications

Linux with AppImage: Oh well appimages well they can be anywhere! You just launch them and they run straight away! You can keep it in your downloads folder or you can make a new applications folder! You just have to make a shortcut yourself in GNOME/KDE to actually launch it the same place as literally everything else but

@zen Yes because Flatpak is the only good way of distributing apps (also it doesn't "solve" the problem since this is the kind of thing the Operating System as a whole should be handling)

Is there Qt Gear Lever or am i going to have to suffer with manually managing AppImages instead

@ipg also you double click on it and it errors out because it “runs everywhere” and your pc isn’t a where

@ipg I use a Application called Gear Lever that does all of that for me and moves the AppImages to a special folder

@ipg Tho I prefer .deb or .rpm packages.

We should make standard package installer format for all distros and their package managers.
