I swear, the difference in buying name brand coin cell batteries from the grocery store vs whatever at the dollar store is WILD.

The name brand from the grocery store is packed in such a way that I can’t get the cell out without scissors, it looks like it has a concentrated dye around the perimeter of each cell (I guess to make it obvious if ingested), AND it’s covered in a bitterant.

The coin cells I bought from the dollar store for approximately half the cost had none of the above, except for maybe the bitterant (which I have not/will not test for).

Safety is good, but it sure feels like the cost of it was passed onto me, the consumer. neofox_flop

Anyway, I am having a struggle trying to remove these fucking coin cells from their packaging. neofox_woozy

My coworker has the shared pair of scissors, and I don’t want to bother them at the moment. neofox_smol

childproofing

Idk, never stopped me when I was a little shit. Now that I’m supposedly an ‘adult’, on the other hand…

@maddy I think a part of the reason might also be shoplifter-proofing.

@LunaDragofelis If they’re not locked up (in this case they weren’t), they’re super easy to conceal and walk out. At the least, it’s advertised on the package as ‘child-proofing’, but I could see some of it as anti-theft.

@maddy as disabled adults childproofing makes things significantly harder, sometimes impossible, to use. it sucks.
