Step one of importing photos to my computer: manually tagging lensinfo with exiftook... The joy of vintage lenses is definitely not in this part

@maruno with analog photography this is even worse, though i got relatively good at detecting different camera's depending on their quirks when spooling the filmroll

@miifox You use different camera bodies even? Yeah, I get how that gets difficult... And you would need to track a lot more settings like exposure etc.? Isn't that just an insane job? :D

@maruno yeah on that regards unless i keep notes just forget it. there are actually a few cameras that record that info on the film, but that's uncommon

@maruno
Hm... Our camera has a setting to include that info when analog lenses are attached... There's something like 100 slots for it, so you don't need to type out the entire info each time you swap. Blobhaj

Maybe yours has something similar? Blobhaj

@SmolHaj Only for the focal length, and it's a bit tedious so why bother if I need to enter the other info still. And the f-stop is rather important and the camera would have no way to know

@miifox I am glad with my digital body and the ability to record sound notes xD

@maruno
Oh... Yeah, that's a bit worse than with our camera... That one stores the model, focal length and smallest aperture setting as well... BlobhajSadReach

@SmolHaj The support here is pretty basic and called "shooting without a lens"... :') Obviously there is a lens haha but it's super analog in that regard.

But it's fine, it has super good manual focus aids and with a simple button hold I can record a voice memo with the info on how I took the photo. :) And then at home I got a small exiftool alias per lens I got with it's info (even serial number cause why not :D) and I just enter the f-stop and if I used the dumb adapter or focal reducer. Just is a bit of fiddling which range of images to apply it to.

@SmolHaj Hmm, yeah I just archive almost everything and would only throw away obviously unviewable stuff. Maybe I am a hoarder but...xD Obviously there are only a selection that is good enough to make it into an album and get processed enough to get printed...

And it has not been daily I take photos :p

@maruno
Oh... Doing daily photos taught us two things *very* quickly - not all of them turn out great, the trick is to find one that isn't too embarrassing... But keeping more than the ones you're happy to take some time with eats up a *lot* of expensive storage for no apparent benefit! Blobhaj

@SmolHaj Yeah, storage is insane now... I am wondering what to do with it later, but I still shoot so little now. Most of it is also trips and memories so I want to keep the bad photos of those too...

I have on my phone started throwing away DNG's of the non stellar ones though as it got full... I probably would do similar if I would start doing photography projects regularly
