What is your opinion on the term transspecies?

What I like about it is how it draws a connection to transgender. As someone who is both, these two feel the same, just about different aspects of my body.

@max I think it might be confused as a sexuality label (like homosexual or bisexual) by cishets, which is probably part of the reason most people switched to the term "transgender".

However if we try to define it based on the sex/gender distinction, then it could be a useful term to distinguish trans people who want to change their body (transsexual) and those who want to change their social role (transgender). Most transgender/sexual people would probably fall under both terms though.

@LunaDragofelis I mean, it's certainly accurate, so that makes it a good term. Although I do feel weird about it, for the same reason you like it. As someone who's only transgender but not transspecies, it's connecting something I relate to with something I can't relate to. It feels like it's making a false equivalence, but logically I know it's not. If anything, it helps me understand the transspecies experience.

Come to think of it, I'm curious about something. How did you realise you're a meltcat?

@mikelovesbikes For a long time I have wished to be a feminine catlike creature, but could never decide on a specific body plan. Wings? Fins? I eventually got to the idea that that species doesn't have a single canonical body plan but can change it at will. Melting to slime seemed like the most plausible way.

As for actually identifying as transspecies, it's similar to realizing I'm transgender - cis human boys don't deeply wish they were catgirls. Neither the girl nor the cat part. At best they want a relationship with a catgirl, but not actually be her.

@LunaDragofelis If it’s like related to therian then I really like it because I think it’s much more clear and easy to understand than the term “therian”. And I feel like a lot of people who are therian are already transgender so it really makes sense to me

@Starcross It definitely has a similar meaning to therian. It's when someone is a different species than their assigned body, similar to how transgender means someone is a different gender than their assigned one.

The similarity is also why I use the therian ΘΔ symbol for myself.
