The new Knives Out film is… 140 min long?

Why?

What is this obsession with making films longer? Is this Bollywood now?

@ielenia @aperture 90-100 min used to be the standard

Anything above two hours is a waste of gigabytes/film

@yassie_j @ielenia @aperture agree, someone needs to inform them it's ok to make movies with that length again

@peachymist @aperture @ielenia seriously, over two hours is a sign that there’s fat you need to trim off

If a documentary can be 90 min, then so can a film

@yassie_j @peachymist @ielenia idk 1917 was pretty cool and that was 119 minutes long and tbh i cant think of places to cut it down [this is the one movie i have seen recently]

@aperture @peachymist @ielenia that’s less than 120 min and therefore gets a pass

@yassie_j @peachymist @ielenia if the film ran just a minute slow then yassie will personally execute the head of the cinema

@yassie_j @ielenia @peachymist @aperture

Better yet… they made the play into *two movies* both of which are almost as long as the play…. So the movies are not just longer but almost double….

@holymachina @yassie_j @ielenia @peachymist i mean like fucking angels in america is two plays that take literally 6-7 hours to finish while the mini-series adaptation takes like 5 hours 50ish minutes like how do you gain that much time if you can cut down a fucking 6 hour long performance for a fucking mini-series how do you . what

@aperture @peachymist @ielenia @holymachina theatre taking it’s time is necessary because it’s live and physical, so it’s like… Whatttr

@yassie_j @ielenia @peachymist @aperture

You add filler *talking* that isn’t present in a musical… but is present in a movie between songs… but don’t cut any of the songs. neofox_sip_glare

@holymachina @yassie_j @ielenia @peachymist oh yeah im talking standard plays more since i dont do a ton of musicals, but yeah no musicals go fucking fast as hell, the few ive seen behind the scenes is. they are very hectic

i feel bad for people in charge of quick changes

@holymachina @yassie_j @peachymist @ielenia i mean honestly for angels in america it makes a lot of sense, every moment is valuable but it is also just. a big fuckoff play

@holymachina @yassie_j @peachymist @ielenia i mean it is about aids and covers basically 4 years of time i think 6 hours is actually pretty reasonable for how complex it is ksjndgsdgsjdng

@holymachina @yassie_j @peachymist @ielenia admittedly 90 percent of the play takes place in a one year span, but lets just ignore that

@aperture @yassie_j there’s a lot of history with hollywood making films that long and longer

the longest i have seen is a cut version of cleopatra (1963) which is still 3h long after being cut by 25% from how it was premiered
