wild idea, ALL devices that can take footage, video or otherwise require an clearily visible red led to indicate recording and photos requiring an audio-visual indication a photo is taken

@tretron which brings up an interesting point, as my fully mechanical camera is near silent as well other than the loud ratchet when i wind the film to the next frame

@miifox yes but here is the thing. A mechanical camera is rather visible that you take a photo. most modern devices are not.

@tretron i mean not on a minox but that's kind of the point of that device, that was a spy cam. but things like leica's and ricoh's are still decently common in street photography; and yes i have used the huge GL690 in a metro and nobody bats an eye.

not super important i reckon because the post was about smartphones; which yeah fair. but i am of the opinion that changing behaviour around photography is a social challenge rather than a technical one

(also it's already a requirement in quite a number of countries that a camera produces a visible and auditive signal; just not in all countries)

@miifox not just smartphones but also smart glasses, hell even smart watches can be used to record poeple now. we more and more get the culture that its fine to just record everything and everyone...and its not.
