TIL, the SD card specification allows cards to report they support a maximum current consumption of… 65 amps

SD card not keeping up with your continuous shutter?

  need 30fps, but it’s rated for 5?

    try 65 amps

just 65535 milliamps all at once

 no DDR no new differential pairs

      just amps

you will certainly not regret 65 amps

@shuppy i would just put 4 sd cards in raid-0 in a pcmcia card, easy solution!

@miifox oh right, that’s the joke >_<

i forgot that p2 was not just four sd cards, but four sd cards in pcmcia, i should have known that was so specific haha

@reedmideke you will certainly not regret 65A through your SD card

@reedmideke i have an arc welder that doesn't eat 65amps of wall current!

@the_turtle To be fair SD only gives you 3.6 (or 1.8) volts, which in my hazy memory is a bit low for welding

@reedmideke @the_turtle if you multiply it together it's 234 W. Somewhat excessive for SD cards, but not enough for welding.

@loke @reedmideke @the_turtle I mean, 200 W is not the most ridiculous amount to consider as a "you'll never need this much" upper limit, that's around a factor of 10 more than the RAM on a nice desktop.

@reedmideke

It never ceases to amaze me, the things you can destroy with 65 amps

Like there is very little in life that you could not make worse with careful application of 65 amps

@TeflonTrout @reedmideke you will certainly not regret it

@TeflonTrout @reedmideke Don't CPUs and GPUs use that kind of ridiculous currents to output hundreds of watts on a single volt of core voltage?

@nyanpasu64 @TeflonTrout @reedmideke Yes, sometimes even under a volt, which means even more amps! SD cards don't need that kind of power, though.

@reedmideke That's (216)-1. I think someone just wanted to put that number in there for fun.

@rudi @reedmideke SD-to-USB-C cable, and power the Laptop from the SD device
