what about the legality of pirating something, that you have the more recent/remastered version of?
it HAS to be legal, in the whole western world, right (i know its positive gray area legal here), to download an older version of intellectual property for something you already own.
Let's take a very solid example: I own age of empires 2 remastered (2013), but not AoE2 (2000) normal. I should be able to get AoE2 (2000) with no possible reprocussions right?

@lain but the difference is "the game is patched to work out of the box on modern systems and hardware and networks"

in estonia that's illegal btw; there are some exceptions for downloading movies and music in our copyright law, but explicitly none for programs/games

@KikuTheFox checked the law, minimum damage caused OR profit aquired must be over 200€ caused directly by the act of IP rights breach, else punishment of no sort is to be applied as far as i can tell. currently this value is effective based on what i quickly could read. indeed no explicit exception for things else than "Audiovisual productions" (fotos or video[+audio]) and "Audiorecordings" (just audio)
copy pasting some relevant laws, from "Autoriõiguse rikkumine arvutisüsteemis"
[täna on üks miinimumpäevamäär 10€]

so, its still breaking IP law, but there is no actual punishments for the actions described above if they are smaller than the 200€ limit as far as i can tell, and it doesnt even mention making a computer copy of things you already own.
looks like its still the big gray area, even grayer than the AudioVisual exception, as long as it's exclusively personal single use

@lebronjames75 peale seda on veel autoriõiguse seaduse sätted, nt § 81(7) "Autoriõiguste ja autoriõigustega kaasnevate õiguste tsiviilõiguslik kaitse", võib olla ka need rakenduvad siin. Aga IANAL, ei oska täpselt öelda.
