Dutch politics, refugees 'crisis', venting
Show content

So one of the biggest refugees centers has been in the news yet again because of fights. We still don't have any structured way to deal with immigrants and refugees. Instead we pile them up in overflowing locations and are shocked, shocked I tell you, that fights break out, that the living conditions are terrible.

What is the solution? reactionairy politicians, nazi's and the assortment of usefull fools shouting about closing borders and defunding refugee centers. Hell the COA gotten money from a crowd fund to send kids from an AZC (refugee center) to a theme park. Guess what happened the politicians in den hague threw a hissy fit and forbid it saying the money needs to be spend 'more useful'. :l its not even your money.

there are violent 'protests' happen again AZCs because 'its the publics demand' that public when the other public holds a march insupport of a refugee camp? complot theory galore and assault them with stones. I just can't anymore with this BS and i am at a loss what i can do.

IR colour photography adheres to some weird rules.

One trick i learned recently about is to think about it in terms of shapes and lights, like black and white photography, but with a little "extra".

Weirdly you still have to colour balance a shot that you've taken through an r72 filter, but now suddenly the white balance does not make sense anymore. Your thinking in terms of shades of blue with a diagonal axis of pink... but what helps is to think what you would white balance a normal photograph for, what should be a neutral grey and what should pop!

Anyways today's photo escapade says trans rights or something...
It's a photograph of some pink …
It is a photograph of some pink…
It is a pink plant on a rustic …
It's some pink and fluffy hangi…

A curious irony in the fact a great many of the free and open source platforms championing digital sovereignty are themselves utterly infrastructurally dependent on big tech apparatus GitHub, itself owned (and mined) by the ruthless and closed source market monopolist Microsoft.

We're gaining ground fast, but we've still got a way to go in the truly sovereign platform space. To use is to support, and that means any point along the supply chain.

One thing I hate about LLMs is how much oxygen it's sucked out of the room for other much longer-standing issues in tech.

Like how tech culture is built on gatekeeping.

Or how widespread burnout is in FOSS and professional tech, and has been for many years, before LLMs. And how people who worked cushy jobs until recently never really realised that's how it was for half the industry.

Or how collaboration is inherently one-sided and often hostile, and users are entitled and believe they deserve your labour for nothing.

Or that open-source projects often are load-bearing on single personalities who treat people like crap but can't be gotten rid of. The fact DHH hasn't been blackballed. The fact people still worship RMS and the ground he walks on because he founded a movement. The fact that "RMS fucked a parrot" is not a disqualifier from public life.

Or how it's hard to find good mentors willing to help.

Or how university CS/CE pipelines generate the wrong kind of developers en masse, but not enough of the ones we need.

Or how big tech has been busting unions for 20 years and those voices get stifled because "we don't need a union" is still a widespread belief in tech.

Fat is beautiful.

Pass it on.

*Especially* if you don't feel it belongs on your account.

*Especially* if you've ever been bullied, harassed, or made to feel lesser because of your weight.

*Especially* if you're not fat.

*Especially* if you are fat.

Let everyone know it's not just acceptable or okay, but completely welcome to be any size.

RE: https://mstdn.social/@kibcol1049/116900968140085475

This myth is so ridiculous. Rice does nothing for electronics. It is not "water absorbing" or desiccating like people think it is.

Fun fact: The whole myth started because rice was a bootleg substitute for silica gel and now people think it's just a dessicant. It's not.

People have been warning since the 40's (for camera equipment) that rice has very poor water-absorbing capability. It's not even good for keeping equipment dry from humidity, which was the original suggested use: keeping film and camera equipment from getting fungus and corrosion in the tropics. And yes, the myth is that old. It's VERY old folklore.

It gained traction because someone in 2007 on a forum claimed to use "the rice trick" (probably gained from Yankee Magazine who suggested using rice as an emergency substitute for silica gel) to "save" their submerged iPhone (time and patience > rice).

The useful parts are turning it off and waiting, not the rice. The rice is counterproductive. The rice can jam into ports and ruin the phone, or starch on it can also clog speakers and ports.

Genuinely delighted by this vintage Internet website, "Accordion Page" by Duane Schnur. High-effort hand-made digital media, self-taught HTML features, heavily worded explanations of how to use media file types, low-res animated GIFs, all caps, etc. **and** 94+ downloadable music lessons each with original audio narration and grey-market scans of accordion exercise books. Honest, quality educational material, made with love, free for everyone. Thank you Duane. 🪗❤️ https://duaneschnur.com/accordion/lessons.htm
