Upon powerup, the CPU begins to execute code.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.
I ported a USB DisplayLink driver to @polpo's PicoGUS card so I could use it to watch MS-DOS games make changes to the VGA palette in realtime. Specifically, I ported "libdlo" to use the TinyUSB stack in host mode, then spent way too much time optimizing it until it was sufficiently fast.
currently preparing a USB drive of Entirely Legally Acquired Content because my sister is living in North Carolina and can't watch any of her shows. Everything is streaming now, and the internet is basically non-existent (she can't even google things!) there.
But I can still send her mail... so it's back to long-distance sneakernet
A huge victory for trans people's rights in the European Union: the European Court of Justice ruled today that EU member states are not allowed to refuse a legal gender change obtained in another member state, and that all member states must recognize a gender change obtained anywhere in the EU.
âThe Court emphasised that the refusal to acknowledge changes of forename and gender acquired in another Member State is contrary to the fundamental rights of EU citizens.â
Regarding the use of mules to bring supplies into hurricane stricken areas, I am only slightly annoyed that people keep referring to this as like the "Stone Age."
Mules only started to be bred in the late Bronze Age, were major parts of huge military operations in WWII, and continue to be essential infrastructure worldwide today.
"Technology" isn't just computers. Calling the use of these animals "Stone Age" is not only incorrect, but insulting in its "primitivizing" whole peoples.

I wish vector search as a thing would die, or return to the back seat and let traditional indexing things have the first shot.
"oh but vector search is great because it clusters similar concepts!"
Yeah you know what concepts are similar? Different names, different model numbers for things, things that are related to _but different from_ what I searched for.
If I search for "morgan", a result for "morton" is a bad result. If I search for "atari ste", a result for the atari falcon is bad.
Enterprise COBOL 6.4 doesn't even have an end of support date yet whereas Oracle is currently planning to drop support for the current LTS Java in 2028. that only gives you four years to convert your legacy Java code into a cutting-edge modern language like COBOL- better get started!
Periodic reminder: The Tesla Cybertruck (aka Incel Camino, Deplorean [thanks, @patterfloof!]) is built on a cast aluminum frame.
Additional reminder: Galvanic corrosion is a risk for steel-on-aluminum contact points whenever an electrolyte is introduced.
Seasonal reminder: Road salt season is coming.

This was the WORST time ever to get a power outage because I was literally being rolled out to be put under anesthesia.
Excuse the delayed downtime but I was unable to respond for a few hours while I was recovering from the initial pain and had to be driven home after my surgery in order to cold start the whole cluster.
Major design flaw here is that after the power returned the initial spike caused a fuse to blow which meant the ups stayed offline.
A software tester walks into a bar. Runs into a bar. Crawls into a bar. Dances into a bar. Flies into a bar. Jumps into a bar. And orders: a beer. 2 beers. 0 beers. 99999999 beers. a lizard in a beer glass. -1 beer. "qwertyuiop" beers. Testing complete. A real customer walks into the bar and turns on a screen reader. The bar goes up in flames.
Have you ever had a hug by a giant inflatable? I can recommend!
